Vision and Values

Vision and Values

'Uncomplicated' Clear and straightforward

We communicate clearly to customers and colleagues, using everyday language avoid jargon and clichés. Before speaking to others, we take time to prepare ahead and pre-empt questions which may arise. This means our customers and colleagues can be confident of our response and won’t need to clarify it with others, wasting precious time.

'Bold' Confident and courageous

We have an innate sense of what is right and what is wrong. With like minded colleagues, B&CE works in a professional and principled manner and have confidence in our products and propositions.

We also choose to support the welfare of low and middle income workers. This was a bold proposal when the company was founded and one which we will continue to hold because it is ethical and honourable.

'Compassionate' Caring and understanding

We show compassion and care about the outcome for each customer. By becoming a good listener we learn more from our customers which provides the best result.

We treat customers and colleagues as individuals, and give our time willingly and generously. Each customer has different needs which require different responses.

'Intelligent' Smart and intuitive

We use our common sense and experience to make sensible judgements. We understand the impact that our decisions have on others. Experience has shown us that sometimes we don’t have all the answers, but we know where to find them.

We look for opportunities to pass on our knowledge, there’s always more to learn and new challenges. We look for ways to provide a better service to customers.

'Dependable' Trustworthy and reliable

Trust can take a long time to build up, but it’s very easy to lose. Being dependable means our customers trust B&CE and can make decisions based on our suggestions. This means that being dependable brings with it responsibility.

'Honest' Truthful and sincere

At B&CE, we’re working with people’s hopes and expectations. At all times, we treat our customers fairly. This means being honest, even when the truth may be difficult. It also means that B&CE follow internal procedures and FSA regulations at all times.

'Innovative' Original and creative

Innovation takes all forms. It can be the big idea, but more often it’s a series of small suggestions which really make a difference. We listen to our customer's needs, and are creative, open-minded and innovative. We try to provide what our customers want.

Our vision is that we are dedicated to the personal and financial wellbeing of everyone in construction. Our values, together with your endeavour will ensure that thousands of families will benefit from future financial security.

B&CE Benefit Schemes

Investors in People (IiP)

IiP is the UK’s leading national quality Standard that focuses on the importance of staff to the success of an organisation and B&CE Benefit Schemes has been accredited at the Bronze level of the Standard.

IiP provides a framework, based on a number of criteria against which organisations can measure their performance in a number of areas relating to good management practice, communications and support for staff development.  Achievement of Bronze IiP recognition demonstrates that B&CE acknowledges the important contribution of all staff and that we support our staff accordingly.

To become recognised as an IiP organisation, B&CE underwent an assessment to check that the levels of good practice laid down in the Standard were met.  This involved an IiP Assessor confidentially interviewing a randomly selected representative sample of employees.  After the assessment, we received a comprehensive report showing our areas of strength and where there is room for improvement.

Our IiP recognition award will be reviewed within three years.

The Investors in People Framework

The IiP framework is based on three key principles:

Plan: We must have developed a vision and a strategy for achieving it.

Do: We must ensure we have the leadership and management in place to achieve the vision, review the skills of our workforce to identify any development needs, encourage employees to take responsibility for their work and acknowledge their contribution.

Review: We must evaluate the impact of our investment, consider how effective our actions have been, what has gone well and what could be improved, this should then feed into planning – a cycle of continuous improvement.

We have been assessed against the ten key best practice indicators which contain 39 evidence requirements which make up the plan, do and review cycle.  This allows us to build up a complete picture of how we manage our employees and where we can make improvements.  The external assessor found sufficient evidence of policy and practices in line with each indicator, which led to our 'recognition' as an Investor in People.
